||ANTONIN DVORAK - SYMPHONY NO. 9 "FROM THE NEW WORLD" - ZDENEK MACAL (Conductor) - LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA -
EMI-Classics for Pleasure 74943|
I have always loved this symphony for as long as I can remember. It is so well written. It is full of great themes, motifs and wonderful melodies that all seem to magically evolve from one another so seamlessly.
It is also a very good example of how to incorporate folk tunes within a solid musical structure without it sounding obvious. Over the years I have heard countless recordings of this work, and I must say that this performance is at the top of the list.
Macal's pacing, nuances and rhythmic flow are true to the nature of this symphony. The orchestra is in great form and the recorded sound is very good. And all of this at a bargain price!
